8. แผนดำเนินการและผลสัมฤทธิ์ทางวิชาการด้านต่างๆในรอบปีที่คาดว่าจะได้รับการต่ออายุ
แผนดำเนินงานของห้องปฏิบัติการปรสิตวิทยาเน้นไปทางด้านความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพของหนอนพยาธิในสัตว์มีกระดูกสันหลังทั้งบนบกและในน้ำ
และ ความหลากหลายของโปรโตซัวที่เป็นอิสระ และที่สามารถก่อให้เกิดโรคบางชนิด การระบาดของหนอนพยาธิระยะติดต่อ
โครงสร้างของผิวหนังเพื่อดูการนำสารอาหารเข้าออกจากลำตัว เป็นต้น จะมีการศึกษาทั้งในระดับพื้นฐาน
ระดับจุลภาค และระดับโมเลกุล เพื่อเป็นข้อมูลพื้นฐานและสามารถนำไปใช้ประโยชน์ในการป้องกันเพื่อตัดวงชีวิตของพยาธิไม่ให้มีการระบาดจนถึงขั้นเป็นอันตรายต่อคนและสัตว์ได้
ห้องปฏิบัติการวิจัยปรสิตวิทยาได้มีการศึกษาทางด้านปรสิตวิทยาทั้งพื้นฐานและจุลภาค
และมีจุดมุ่งหมายที่จะนำไปสู่การศึกษาทางด้านนี้ให้กว้างขวางและมีประโยชน์ต่อคน
สัตว์และสิ่งแวดล้อมในการป้องกันทางสาธารณสุข หากเราไม่ทราบว่าในท้องถิ่นที่เราอยู่มีปรสิตอะไร
สภาวะเป็นอย่างไร มีวงชีวิตอย่างไร เมื่อเกิดปัญหาเช่นการระบาดของโรคขึ้นแล้วย่อมเป็นการยากที่จะแก้ปัญหาในขณะนั้นได้
ดังเหตุผลที่กล่าวมา การตั้งห้องปฏิบัติการวิจัยก็ให้มีการวิจัยต่อเนื่องในระยะเวลา
3 ปี ในด้านการศึกษาหนอนพยาธิ และ โปรโตซัว ในเรื่องความหลากหลายทางชีวภาพ ระบาดวิทยา
วงชีวิต และชีววิทยาบางประการของพยาธิในคนและสัตว์ ทั้งระยะตัวอ่อน อาทิเช่น ระยะเมตาเซอคาเรียของพยาธิใบไม้
Stellantchamus falcatus, Haplorchis taichui, Haplorchis yokogawai และ Centrocestus
caninus และระยะตัวเต็มวัย อาทิเช่นพยาธิใบไม้ในกระเพาะผ้าขี้ริ้ววัวในแฟมิลี Paramphistomidae
และศึกษากลุ่มโปรโตซัวที่ดำรงชีพอิสระในแหล่งน้ำ และที่สามารถติดถึงคนเช่น Acanthamoeba
เป็นต้น
การดำเนินงานในปีที่ผ่านมานับว่าได้ผลดีมากเกินความคาดหมาย
เพราะสามารถเสนอผลงานด้วย
การตีพิมพ์ในวานสารวิชาการระดับสากล 6 เรื่อง เสนอผลงานในการประชุมวิชาการระดับชาติและระดับสากล
8 เรื่อง (ตามแนบ) มีการทำวิจัยร่วมกับนักวิจัยทั้งในและต่างประเทศ การบริการวิชาการทั้งตรวจสอบชนิดของหนอนพยาธิในสัตว์น้ำและสัตว์บกบางชนิด
และตรวจสอบโปรโตซัวทั้งที่เป็นอิสระในแหล่งน้ำและที่อาจเป็นปรสิตได้ในคน การวิจัยร่วมกับนักศึกษาปริญญาโทจากทุนนักศึกษาของ
BRT และทุนปริญญาเอกกาญจนาภิเษก จำนวน 3 ทุน จึงหวังว่าห้องปฏิบัติการปรสิตวิทยาจะได้รับการสนับสนุนจากคณะวิทยาศาสตร์ต่อไป
