Chiang Mai University has adopted an inter-disciplinary program as the model for its educational system. The University academic year is divided into 2 semesters. Each semester covers about 18 weeks. The first semester starts at the beginning of June, while the second semester starts in late October.

The Faculty of Science Offers 34 degree programs in science and technology. Of these programs, 13, 15 and 6 are offered at the Bachelor of Science (BS), Master of Science (MS) and Doctorate (PhD) levels respectively. Within these various study programs, the Faculty offers a total of 454 and 331 courses at undergraduate and graduate level respectively.
